High adoption was driven by hands-on household training delivered through World Vision’s trusted community structures, with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ministry of Environment (MOE) engaged as key stakeholders in the project. As duty-bearers, MOH and MOE have played an active role in ensuring that 4Life Solutions and World Vision Tanzania align implementation with national WASH policies and the broader government development agenda on access to safe drinking water.
Using simple demonstrations and local language, this coordinated approach strengthened community trust and accountability, resulting in 94% correct and consistent use.

During a cholera outbreak affecting multiple regions in Tanzania, 4Life Solutions partnered with UNICEF Tanzania and the Ministry of Health to support rapid household-level water protection.

Through a donor-funded emergency response, 13,000 SaWa units were distributed to help families immediately protect themselves from waterborne disease.

Despite crisis conditions, adoption remained remarkably strong with 83% of households actively using SaWa
Many reported daily use, with the majority adopting SaWa as their primary household water storage solution. The project demonstrated that emergency water interventions, when designed with user needs in mind, can achieve strong, sustained household use, turning short-term relief into longer-term resilience.

As part of Enveritas’ corporate social responsibility initiative, 4Life Solutions partnered with Enveritas to improve access to safe drinking water in primary schools serving coffee-farming communities.
The program targeted 1,350 schools linked to Enveritas’ coffee verification areas and reached 920 schools during implementation, with 5,260 SaWa units distributed directly to classrooms.
At the time of deployment, none of the participating schools treated or boiled their drinking water, despite relying on springs, piped water, or boreholes. Through this CSR effort, Enveritas helped close a critical water safety gap in rural school environments, with 99% of schools reporting that SaWa was extremely helpful.
The initiative highlights how responsible supply-chain actors can translate sustainability commitments into tangible health benefits for farming communities and their children.

4Life Solutions partnered with the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) to develop and scale a retail-driven, peer-to-peer distribution model for last mile safe water access.

The model was first matured and validated with support from the Danida Green Business Partnerships (DGBP) programme, which refined the commercial architecture and confirmed the viability of women-led SaWa distribution. During this phase, 147 women sales agents were trained and onboarded, and over 7,500 SaWa units were sold to households, validating two sustainable business cases; to 4Life Solutions and to the sales agents.

Building on this foundation, support from the Bayer Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) Grant (Bayer Cares Foundation) strengthened the income- eneration and entrepreneurship components of the model. Under the Bayer-supported phase, 100 MYWO women were mobilized, trained, and onboarded as SaWa community based sales agents
Through this blended commercial and grant-supported approach, approximately 7,500 households were reached; impacting an estimated 37,500 people with access to safe drinking water. The initiative delivered strong livelihood outcomes alongside health impact. On average, women experienced an 18.5% increase in income, with 42% achieving a ≥30% income increase. SaWa adoption (consistent & correct use) reached 98.9%, reinforcing the effectiveness of community-led distribution in driving sustained behaviour change.
Overal, the partnership demonstrates SaWa’s effectiveness in B2C, last-mile retail settings; delivering sustained safe water access while strengthening women’s economic empowerment and validating the scalability of market based, community-led distribution models anchored in MYWO’s nationwide grassroots network

Through a partnership with the M-PESA Foundation, 4Life Solutions has distributed over 4,900 SaWa units across Kenya (figure continues to grow), embedding safe water access into two distinct but complementary health delivery platforms: Mama Packs (maternal health initiative) and Community Medical Camps (Health/WASH intervention).
1. Mama Packs – A Maternal Health Initiative ENG SaWa units were integrated into maternal health services through the Mama Packs platform, reaching mothers at health facilities during antenatal and postnatal care visits. Distribution is strategicaly anchored at maternity wards; a critical point when mothers are highly receptive to adopting new health practices for themselves and their newborns.

Folow-up spot checks confirmed 83% SaWa adoption (consistent & correct use), with SaWa quickl embedded into daily household routines. By linking safe water access directly to maternal and newborn care, the initiative reduces exposure to waterborne i lness at a vulnerable stage of life while helping lower preventable household health expenditures.

2. Medical Camps – A Community Health & WASH Intervention

In paralel, SaWa distribution was integrated into community medical camps, where safe water education was delivered alongside broader health and WASH services. These medical camps provide an opportunity to combine treatment, prevention, and behaviour change messaging in one setting; reinforcing the importance of safe water as a
foundation for health.
